Pathways to Hope for People from Diverse Ethnic Communities

At Trauma Healing Together, we recognise that the journey toward healing can be especially challenging for people from diverse ethnic communities. Many individuals are not only coping with the effects of trauma but may also be experiencing isolation, language barriers, cultural adjustment, and the challenges of building a new life in Scotland. Attitudes towards mental health can vary across cultures, and stigma surrounding mental health remains a barrier for some people seeking support.

While our flagship programme, Pathways to Hope, is open to anyone aged 18 or over who lives in Scotland and is able to travel to Perth, we recognise that cultural and personal factors can sometimes affect how comfortable people feel accessing support.

In response, we are piloting the Pathways to Hope for Diverse Ethnic Communities programme, which combines a twelve-week wellbeing programme with sixteen one-to-one counselling sessions delivered by specialist female counsellors.

This pilot has been developed for women from ethnic minority backgrounds who have experienced psychological trauma. The women-only format has been designed in response to feedback and identified needs, recognising that some women may feel more comfortable discussing sensitive experiences and engaging in support within a women-only setting. Alongside our wider services, this programme aims to provide an additional pathway to support that is culturally responsive, safe, and empowering.

This is a free service and does not require an official diagnosis.
