Trauma Healing Together Launches New COSCA‑Validated Counselling Skills Programme

Perth, Scotland - Trauma Healing Together, a leading Scottish charity supporting people affected by psychological trauma, has announced the launch of its newly validated COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills, offering individuals across Scotland the opportunity to develop professional helping skills in a safe, trauma‑aware environment.

The programme, delivered online as part of the charity’s training arm The Atholl Academy, provides a nationally recognised foundation for those considering a career in counselling or working in roles where strong interpersonal skills are essential.

The COSCA Certificate is widely regarded as the first formal step toward becoming a qualified counsellor, but it is also valued across sectors including social care, education, health, HR, community work, and the voluntary sector.

“We’re delighted to bring this highquality, emotionally safe training opportunity to learners across Scotland,” said the Training & Counselling Programme Manager at Trauma Healing Together. “Our approach is grounded in traumainformed practice, meaning students are supported not only to learn counselling skills, but to understand themselves and others with compassion.”

The year‑long programme is structured around four modules - Listening, Responding, Self‑Reflection, and Integration, combining skills practice, theoretical learning, and personal development. Students are introduced to a range of counselling approaches, including person‑centred, psychodynamic, humanistic, and cognitive behavioural frameworks.

Unlike many academic courses, the COSCA Certificate is experiential, encouraging students to draw on their own life experiences during skills practice. Trauma Healing Together emphasises emotional safety throughout the programme and encourages applicants to consider their readiness for reflective work.

The course requires 85% attendance, weekly study, and participation in reflective assignments. No prior qualifications are needed, making it accessible to beginners as well as experienced professionals seeking to enhance their practice.

Course fees are set at £1,400, payable in four instalments, with employer‑funded places available. SAAS funding is expected to be confirmed in the coming months.

Applications are now open, followed by an informal chat online. The charity welcomes applicants with disabilities or additional support needs and offers adjustments to ensure inclusive participation.

“Our goal is to create a learning community where people feel safe, supported, and empowered,” the Programme Manager added. “Whether someone is beginning their counselling journey or simply wants to communicate more effectively in their personal or professional life, this course offers a meaningful and transformative experience.”
