Our Work with Diverse Ethnic Communities

At Trauma Healing Together, we understand that the journey of healing can be especially challenging for individuals from ethnically diverse communities. Many face not only the lasting effects of trauma, but also isolation, language barriers, and the difficulties of adapting to a new life in Scotland.

That is why we created Stepping Stones for New Scots, a six-week wellbeing programme designed specifically for people who have recently arrived in Scotland. In 2025, the programme supported 53 New Scots, helping them improve their mental health, reduce anxiety, and rebuild their confidence and self-esteem.

Through this programme, participants received culturally sensitive, trauma/mental health support. Clients were given the opportunity to build resilience, improve their mental wellbeing, and connect with a community that truly understands their experiences. Every story of progress no matter how small represents hope, courage, and the powerful impact of compassionate support.

Building on this success, we are excited to launch The R.I.S.E. Programme, formally known as "Stepping Stones for New Scots".

The R.I.S.E. Programme (Resilience, Insight, Strength, Empowerment)

This is a 10-week group wellbeing programme designed for individuals from diverse ethnic communities who are experiencing poor mental health as a result of psychological trauma.

The programme provides a safe and supportive space where participants can focus on emotional regulation, develop coping strategies, build meaningful friendships, and begin the process of stabilisation and personal meaning-making. This Programme aims at the end; to support recovery and encourages post-traumatic growth.

R.I.S.E. is currently being offered to organisations that support diverse ethnic communities. If your organisation works with refugees, asylum seekers, or other diverse ethnic groups and believes the R.I.S.E. Programme could benefit your service users, we would be delighted to hear from you.

We are able to deliver the programme for men and women separately and can also facilitate sessions at your preferred location. This flexibility ensures the programme remains culturally sensitive, accessible, and creates a safe and comfortable environment for all participants.

Pathways to Hope for Women from Diverse Ethnic Communities

We are delighted to offer our flagship project, Pathways to Hope, for women experiencing poor mental health as a result of psychological trauma.

This programme provides a combination of 16 one-to-one counselling sessions and 12 group wellbeing sessions, offering both personalised therapeutic support and the opportunity to connect with others in a safe and supportive environment.

At the end of the programme, we also offer volunteering opportunities, helping participants build confidence, develop new skills, and take positive steps towards their future.

Referrals are now open for the next cohort.

For many clients, these activities provide a rare opportunity to try things they may never have had access to before. Through these experiences, clients can build confidence, develop resilience, and gain a sense of achievement, all of which contribute positively to improving their mental health and overall well-being.
