On The Mend- PTH Graduates
Upcycling workshops for all abilities.
Available spots
Service Description
The workshop covers upcycling a dining chair (or painting and applying decoupage to a small side table if moving a chair would be challenging). This may be a totally new experience to you and that is absolutely fine, the workshops are designed for a complete novice. You will be guided through each step of the upcycling process and hopefully enjoy bringing an old piece of furniture back to life and putting your creative stamp on it. Finding ways to be busy with your hands and engage with a new challenge can be supportive to your mental health, refocusing thoughts and finding a past time that reaps lovely rewards. Each session allows time for a break and tidying up at the end of the workshop as well as the opportunity to complete mini tasks if required. There will be plenty of expert support on hand! Below is a break down of each session but this will vary depending on the project you choose. Session 1: Located on the High Street, staff will welcome you and introduce you to the building. We will plan and decide on how you would like your chair to look, paint colour, fabric, final finish etc. Action plan for each chair will be made. Then we will start to remove existing upholstery, sand the chair for the first coat of paint application. Session 2: A second coat of paint will be applied. Measure foam wadding and fabric for seat pads. (This may happen week 3 depending on progress). Session 3: This week we will apply fabric to the seat pad. Session 4: For the last week, we will apply a finish to the paint - wax or glaze. The upholstered seat will be attached back to frame. Time will be made to evaluate progress and research potential future projects. Session 5: Back at the THT office and with the THT staff, you will evaluate the module and reflect on any new skills/ coping mechanisms that you may have learned.
